Project overview
A geo-environmental investigation was commissioned by Thomasons, on behalf of Norlife Limited, for the £3.7 million redevelopment of North Walsham Cottage Hospital in Norfolk. The project involved the demolition of existing structures and the construction of a new 24-bed ward. To meet project timelines, the investigation and reporting were required to be completed within two weeks.
Our approach
We conducted a detailed assessment of potentially contaminated soils to evaluate risks to receptors, including future hospital patients. No significant contamination was identified.
To support the structural design, the following methods were employed:
- Window sampling
- Trial pitting
- Dynamic cone penetration testing
These techniques provided key geotechnical parameters to inform the design of a cost-efficient and appropriately engineered soakaway and foundation solution.
Outcome
The investigation was completed on time and within budget, ensuring the project progressed without delay.
