Project overview
A site in Costessey, Norwich, was proposed for commercial redevelopment. Due to its history as a former sand and gravel extraction site, the local planning authority required a ground gas risk assessment as a planning condition. The assessment focused on detecting methane, carbon dioxide, and oxygen levels in the ground to evaluate potential risks.
Our approach
Commissioned by Citygate Developments Limited, we conducted environmental monitoring for ground gases in line with CIRIA guidance. The investigation involved:
- Monitoring methane, carbon dioxide, and oxygen levels across the site.
- Evaluating risks to potential receptors, including site users and surrounding infrastructure.
Outcome
The assessment found insignificant levels of ground gas, with risks to receptors deemed low. As a result, the development was cleared to proceed without further restrictions.
