Project overview
As part of the West Coast Mainline Route Modernisation works, multiple trenchless constructions were required in the form of guided auger bores for utility installations. Perco Engineering Services Limited was tasked with the installation, with A F Howland Associates acting as their geotechnical consultant.
Our approach
We provided expert geotechnical advice to ensure safe and cost-effective construction, including:
- Identifying suitable rock strata for boring and recommending optimal depths.
- Conducting exploratory drilling on both sides of the rail tracks to map geological conditions.
- Producing predictive settlement analyses to assess the impact of guided auger boring through various rock layers.
Outcome
All guided auger bores were successfully completed without encountering unexpected geological conditions or excessive surface settlement, ensuring the project stayed on schedule and within budget.
